Monday July 28, 2008 Shinzen 2008 Day 1 Meet the Homestay

Monday, July 28 10:30 AM Japan Team arrives ANA Flight #008 (NH008) 11:30 AM Shinzen USA participants arrive at JCCCNC Players dropped off at JCCCNC 12:00 N Lunch at the JCCCNC
We met up with Timmy at around 5:00 pm at JCCCNC I first ran into Dianne and she said that Timmy and Hiroya hit it off immediately and we should have a great time hosting him. Irene sat with June and Anthony, Ann and Tom along with Grant and Rosalyn Timmy told Irene that his homestay hated him and that they did not get along. I thought her that was the opposite of what Dianne had told me and that it was pretty strange. Turns out that it was Timmy playing a trick on his mom. Hiroya is about the same height as Timmy but a little lighter in weight. He seems to be a balla and has a lot of spirit. We stayed at the hall until it was time to leave, Owen's home stay was chasing Timmy around and lifting him up. We took pictures with Hiroya and I also made Kendel and Brenden take a picture with him
Hiroya speaks limited English and we speak very limited Japanese so it will be fun. After the welcome dinner, Hiroya looked a little tired but we decided to take him home first.
Hiroya gave the family plenty of gifts, beautiful hashii's in covers, a couple of lantern key chains and a nice lantern of Osaka Jo, gave Irene a silk hankerchief.

They ended up playing basketball at the house. It is pretty funny as he can play a little bit and he never gives up and is quite the battler.
Hiroya would complain about something in Japanese and would speak way too fast for us and Timmy would say dont know, it turns out he was calling for double dribble

After a short time, showing him around the house and getting him settled in, we took Hiroya to the Summer Pro League at Kezar stadium. Timmy and Hiroya sat in the first row of the baseline to watch the game. At Halftime I went to Dave Nish and Denny T and introduced Hiroya to them.

On the way back, Hiroya saw someone with a basketball and asked them to borrow it so he could shoot around at halftime of the game.

After the game we went to PollyAnn's and he had a strawberry ice cream in a cup while timmy had a lychee in a cup. the two party poopers B and T did not have anything, but eyeballed the candy.

Went back to the house and the continued to play basketball indoors until it was time to shower and get ready for bed.
